DOF Belly

BW, Just the Belly

I tend to prefer maternity portraits that show the mom-to-be’s face, but sometimes cropping in another fashion works to dramatic effect.

dof_belly Below is the original version, which I think is a little less effective.

The golf-ball is a much more difficult prop to incorporate than the soccer-ball or basketball. It’s size does not lend itself to comparison as the others do. Still, I think something is achieved here with the juxtaposition by keeping the far hand, on golf-club, in frame.

Wisp of White

I get a lot of requests to do fabric draping. While draping on the bottom tends to be very effective, coverage for the top is a lot trickier and I find it is best left to other methods. When you try to use fabric for all your coverage you are essentially making a dress, which is quite an undertaking. It is very hard to do well. Often the results are toga-like and bulky.

This time, however, I feel the full body draping worked extremely well. So well, in fact, I may need to rethink my previous ideas. It helped that the mom-to-be here was extremely easy to work and was very helpful in finding and holding the pose.
